about us
IRC regulates and monitors the sale and transmission of electricity.
IRC is dedicated to exceeding customer expectations through the provision of quality electricity services at affordable rates, with a view to raising the standard of living and boosting economic productivity of the people, and meeting the renewable energy objectives of the government.
The Independent Regulatory Commission (IRC) has as its core objectives as a regulator to be an independent arbiter in all matters relating to the sale of electricity, and to establish rules and guidelines which will allow for consistency, predictability and transparency in the regulation of electricity supply in the nation
Prior to the establishment of the Independent Regulatory Commission (IRC) in 2006, the availability of electricity power in Dominica was a total mess. The Dominica Electric Power Company (DOMLEC), a privately-owned power company, provided electricity to consumers. The commission was set up according to the dictates of the National Electric Power Policy which is aimed at a complete overhaul of electricity services in Dominica.
