IRC Preparing Final Response as Rate Review Nears End of May Deadline

Dominica’s electricity Rate Review is entering another decisive stage as the Independent Regulatory Commission (IRC) prepares to release its second formal response to public comments later this week.

The update comes as the review process approaches the end of May, a period previously identified in the Commission’s timetable as the closing phase of consultations and stakeholder engagement surrounding DOMLEC’s proposed revised tariff structure.

Executive Director Justinn Kase said the next publication will address the remaining comments and questions received from the public during the consultation exercise. “On the 29th, the IRC will be issuing its second response to the public on the review that occurred,” he stated.

According to Kase, the upcoming release will continue the Commission’s effort to maintain transparency throughout the process by ensuring that responses and supporting material remain publicly accessible. The documents will be published online alongside the other reports and consultation material already issued during the review.

“There will be responses to all comments and questions that we received and this will also be published on our website in the folder along with all the relevant documents associated with the tariff review process,” Kase explained.

Although the process is approaching its scheduled conclusion, the Commission says engagement with the public will continue. Kase noted that the IRC remains open to receiving additional feedback up until final approval of the revised tariff regime.

“It is my pleasure to let you know that this effort is ongoing and until such time that the tariff is approved, the Commission will be open to receive comments and questions,” he said.

The second response document is expected to mark one of the final major public updates before the review transitions into the determination stage.

With several months of consultations, outreach programmes, and stakeholder submissions now nearing completion, the process moves closer to defining the next structure for electricity pricing in Dominica.
