IRC Community Outreach Moves To Roseau
Roseau is the next stop for the Independent Regulatory Commission (IRC) in its community outreach programme. The meeting will be held on Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at the WAWU Headquarters on Hillsborough Street from 6:00 p.m. The body responsible for regulating the electricity sector in Dominica embarked on an education drive within communities last month. IRC Embarks on Community Outreach Across Dominica
The Independent Regulatory Commission (IRC), the body responsible for regulating the electricity sector in Dominica, is embarking on an outreach programme that will take it to communities across Dominica. In the first phase of the programme, IRC staffers took to the streets of Roseau last month to educate persons about its’ functions and the second phase will take the form of Public Meetings within communities. Petro Caribe Increases its Price Per Gallon of fuel to DOMLEC
The IRC is aware that Petro Caribe has increased its price per gallon of fuel supplied to DOMLEC in the new contract agreed with DOMLEC for the supply of fuel for the next year beginning March 1, 2011. We have been alerted of this fact by both DOMLEC and the Ministry of Public Works, Energy and Ports. While it is likely that there would be some increase in the fuel surcharge, the IRC with the cooperation of DOMLEC is working to minimize the impact of the increase on consumers’ bills. IRC Quality of Service Standards in Force
DOMLEC has been instructed by the Independent Regulatory Commission (IRC) to adopt and implement the Guaranteed and Overall Quality of Service Standards published in the Commission’s Decision paper on October 10, 2009. An Administrative Order (Document reference: 2009/002/O) was issued to DOMLEC in December 2009 in line with the powers given to the Commission by Section 41 of the 2006 Electricity Supply Act. The Decision was made following months of stakeholder consultation on the proposed regime and various amendments to the original proposal. IRC Launches Self Generators’ Registration Programme
The Independent Regulatory Commission (IRC) Dominica’s electricity regulator has started a nationwide programme to register all generators in Dominica. The register of self generators is being compiled by the IRC in a bid to add to current statistics on electricity capacity and usage as well as to help in monitoring and improving safety standards in the sector. The register will include anyone who owns a generator whether fuel-based or renewable.
