IRC and DOMLEC Reviewing Public Feedback Ahead of May 18 Response Deadline

Work is intensifying behind the scenes as Dominica’s electricity Rate Review moves closer to another major milestone. The IRC has confirmed that it is now actively compiling and reviewing comments received during April’s public consultations.

The exercise follows weeks of community meetings, media outreach, and stakeholder discussions held across Dominica as part of the consultation process surrounding proposed electricity tariff adjustments.

Executive Director Justinn Kase said the current focus is on organizing and responding to the issues raised by the public. “The IRC is now engaged in collating all comments and questions from the consultations that took place in April with a view to respond to those questions and comments as soon as possible,” he explained.

According to Kase, the process involves direct collaboration with DOMLEC, since the proposed rates originate from the company itself. “As we always stress, the rates are DOMLEC’s rates,” he stated, adding that any possible adjustments to the proposed structure would ultimately depend on what DOMLEC is prepared to consider following public feedback.

The Commission is working toward a May 18 deadline, when its first formal responses to public comments are expected to be released. That publication will also help guide the next phase of the review process, including additional opportunities for public input before final decisions are made.

“The IRC, based on its mandate, will focus on the interests of the public and government’s policy,” Kase noted.

Even as consultations have ended, the Commission is still encouraging members of the public and stakeholders to continue submitting questions and comments throughout May.

Kase said the additional feedback could help shape the final tariff structure eventually adopted by DOMLEC, as the review process moves steadily toward its concluding stages.
