The Independent Regulatory Commission (IRC) is responsible for registering all generators in Dominica. This is due to add to current statistics in Electricity capacity and usage as well as to help in monitoring and improving safety in the sector. If you own a generator for work, or at home, running 24 hours or just as backup, you may be required to have a generating licence from the IRC. IRC Issues Licenses to DOMLEC
The Independent Regulatory Commission created history on October 7, 2013 when two new licences were presented to DOMLEC. It has been decades since DOMLEC was first issued licences to operate in Dominica. DOMLEC was issued a Generation Licence. This license gives DOMLEC the non exclusive right and privilege within Dominica to generate electricity. The second license is a Transmission, Distribution and Supply License which gives DOMLEC the exclusive right and privilege to transmit distribute and supply electricity in Dominica. The Winners of IRC’s 5th Anniversary Essay Competition
The Independent Regulatory Commission (IRC) on Wednesday 17th October, 2012, announced the winners of its first Student Essay Competition, held recently to commemorate its 5th Anniversary. This year’s competition required high-school and college students to: ‘Explain why it is important to establish an Independent Regulatory Commission to oversee and regulate the electricity sector in Dominica and how this is of benefit to electricity consumers’.
