Following a spate of nationwide blackouts in September 2009, the Independent Regulatory Commission (IRC) publicly pledged to investigate the events with a view towards identifying the root causes and proposing solutions.
The Commission has since issued an Administrative Order to the electricity company that it must supply the necessary data and assistance to the IRC in order for the audit to be performed. The audit began on February 1, 2010.
The technical audit will look at the entire scope of DOMLEC’s generating sets, transmission and distribution system and assets. Working with the company, the IRC intends to help identify flaws and problems within the system and work towards improving it and therefore the service to all Dominican consumers.
