DOMLEC – CDB: General Procurement Notice
The Dominica Electricity Services Limited (DOMLEC) has received financing from the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) in an amount equivalent to US$15,804,000.00 towards the cost of The Restoration of the Electricity System of the Commonwealth of Dominica, and intends to apply a portion of the proceeds of this financing to eligible payments under contracts procured under this project. Payments by CDB will be made only at the request of DOMLEC and upon approval by CDB, and will be subject in all respects to the terms and conditions of the Financing Agreement. IRC Issues Licenses to DOMLEC
The Independent Regulatory Commission created history on October 7, 2013 when two new licences were presented to DOMLEC. It has been decades since DOMLEC was first issued licences to operate in Dominica. DOMLEC was issued a Generation Licence. This license gives DOMLEC the non exclusive right and privilege within Dominica to generate electricity. The second license is a Transmission, Distribution and Supply License which gives DOMLEC the exclusive right and privilege to transmit distribute and supply electricity in Dominica. The world has been experiencing a steady rise in fuel prices on the international market in recent times, and this movement saw the price increase from $11.74 per gallon in January 2012 to $12.59 in April 2012. Since Dominica is highly dependent on fuel for its electricity generation (approximately 65% of the electricity generated comes from fossil fuel sources), the increases in fuel prices have directly affected our local electricity rates.
