The Independent Regulatory Commission (IRC) is seeking five (5) vibrant and willing members from the general public, across Dominica, to form part of a body that will provide a direct link to electricity consumers. That body, the Consumer Relations Committee (CRC), is being setup by the IRC to give guidance on relevant consumer issues. The IRC is now broadcasting its search via the media. The Winners of IRC’s 5th Anniversary Essay Competition
The Independent Regulatory Commission (IRC) on Wednesday 17th October, 2012, announced the winners of its first Student Essay Competition, held recently to commemorate its 5th Anniversary. This year’s competition required high-school and college students to: ‘Explain why it is important to establish an Independent Regulatory Commission to oversee and regulate the electricity sector in Dominica and how this is of benefit to electricity consumers’. Essay Competition Deadline Extension (August 31st, 2012)
Please be advised that the Independent Regulatory Commission (IRC) has extended the deadline for its Student Essay Competition. As we seek to make this a competitive process, the Commission believes that extending the deadline until after the summer holidays would encourage more participation from our students, while allowing them to become more knowledgeable about the subject matter. IRC Has Opened its Doors to the Public
The Independent Regulatory Commission was appointed in June of 2007 pursuant to the Electricity Supply Act, Act 10 of 2006. Under the Act, the Commission is empowered to regulate the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity in Dominica. The duty of IRC is to protect the public interest, regulate competition between service providers and monitor social and environmental issues within the industry.
